Such Great Heights
» The Postal Service

I am thinking it's a sign that the freckles
In our eyes are mirror images and when
We kiss they're perfectly aligned
And I have to speculate that God himself
Did make us into corresponding shapes like
Puzzle pieces from the clay
True, it may seem like a stretch, but
Its thoughts like this that catch my troubled
Head when you're away when I am missing you to death
When you are out there on the road for
Several weeks of shows and when you scan
The radio, I hope this song will guide you home

They will see us waving from such great
Heights, 'come down now,' they'll say
But everything looks perfect from far away,
'come down now,' but we'll stay...

I tried my best to leave this all on your
Machine but the persistent beat it sounded
Thin upon listening
That frankly will not fly. you will hear
The shrillest highs and lowest lows with
The windows down when this is guiding you home

I am listening to this song for two days now. I am not playing anything 'cept this song again and again. I love this song very much. As if it's bringing me to "such great heights".

Kid Nation

Have you heard this new show KID NATION in CBS? Kid Nation is a reality based TV show where 40 children are left on their own, no adults (supposedly), except with some TV crew that will shoot them day and night, in a ghost town in New Mexico. The children are turned loose to work on a government, an economy, and a new human society and like any adult reality tv show the end product is to make some of them the good guys and some are the bad guys. This is basically, Lord of the Flies meets Reality TV. And we will be able to watch them in our sofa in a late TV show (at least in the US) reach the end of their emotional threshold. Which is not surprising because they are children, without their parents for a month.

And because of this the CBS is being challenge by some concerned groups and a media uprising is now started by people who cares about these children. I am interested in the idea, but I think putting children in a challenging situation, where the eldest just turned 15 and the youngest 8, is wrong. Well, this is some kind of entertainment, huh.

beep! beep! beep! beeeep!!

It's funny how the jeepney becomes a small community. In jeepney, people get close together, skin to skin, without feeling awkward to themselves. People who don't know each other, people from different backgrounds, people with different beliefs, gather together as if they know each other for so long (well, constantly talking isn't necessarily communicating).

it is a SOP when someone pays from the far side, someone will give his fare to the driver. Or when the driver did not hear one of the passengers saying "para" all or some will shout in unison. Or when someone is bringing a heavy luggage or little children, someone in the passengers will help.

well, like our community itself, this is just the one side of the jeepney.

random musing

for one human being to love another, that is perhaps the most difficult of all our task, the ultimate, the last test and proof, the work for which all of the work is but preparation.

It is a sort of homecoming for many of our Alumni who participated in the art raffle. For “you”, here is your invitation.

wattaday!

This is the kind of weather that like. windy and not hot. and the breeze, ooohh.. so good! Only that I cannot go outside because I have to finish a lot of things! I've just finished the skit that we are going to perform in geog1 tomorrow. And now I have to create a new problem proposal for my thesis for I have abandoned my previous research because I think I don't have enough time to finish it. I also have to review in Natsci2 because we have an exam tomorrow plus, another exam, TFA180! Haha! But I think I can do it. Heheh. Later, I think I'm going to rooftop. I won't let this beautiful day to pass without breathing the fragrant breeze outside.

At least I have one work down.

looking through you

But why is it so strange to want to know what everyone else already knows? Why should my own face be a secret from me?

AKAZUKIN CHA CHA!!!

Nakapanood ako uli ng Akazukin ChaCha kaninang umaga. At yung mga alaala ko nung bata ako ay nagbalik. Haha! Naaalala ko pa rin ang mga pangalan nila! Hahahah!! Sobrang favorite ko kasi Akazukin Chacha eh. Along with Blink, Btx, Tico and friends etc. At sobrang laugh trip talaga ang Akazukin Chacha! Panalo pa rin ang dubbing ng channel 2 para sa akin! Hehe, maghahanap nga ako ng tagalized version ng Akazukin Chacha!

self image

not theologically sound

I don't know if I'm going to be happy because the class were suspended because of the rain. The rain is not that strong, only our roads were easily flooded. Sometimes it's flooded even it's not raining! Well, the extended summer, I think is now over, and we should expect a lot of rain. And if that is so, should we also expect a lot of canceled classes? For some tolerable raindrops education has been displaced!

Anyway, as the water accumulated in our drainage, my concerns also accumulated, my golly! Tomorrow, (Aug.09) we had a report in geog1, first class(7am) and for that I volunteered my self. haha! And because Prof.Narciso did not come to class the last time we are supposed to have our 1st long exam in TFA180, it's moved the same day with our report in in Geog1. Then later that afternoon we have our 2nd long exam in NatSci2. Also the same day, I have to consult my thesis problem with Prof.Reyes, so that I could go on in my research. I'm panicky right now about that, but still it's not yet enough to let me slide. hehe.

I don't know, but I think if you really have to eat something really bad and you really have to, you'll just eat it fast so it will be over. But in my case, with all this raining, I guess I can't do that. All I can do is pinch my nose so I wont taste it. XD

I don't know if I'm going to be happy with the rain. But I guess, I'll be -- for the moment.

Lyre Bird - David Attenborough

Can you believe this animal? It's voted as the best of the best. Try and see it for yourself, how clever this animal is.

..to the ends of the earth.

It's hard to have no internet connection, can't update regularly. Anyway, I just want to share that this day was just very tiring but very rewarding too! I just have had one of the best days I ever had.

In the morning I participated to the project of GK(Gawad Kalinga), of building houses for the needy. We had human chain passing the hollow blocks, gravels, sands and everything needed for building houses. I had worked with these kinds of things way back when I was small, helping our house to be built, but it's different to build someone's houses with friends. The experience was very enriching and fun, though it's sure very tiring, but when you see the smiles in the faces of the children and people you are helping building their houses with, your tiredness will be reciprocated with joy! It's hard to explain, all I can say is that it's rewarding serving others, especially the needy. I planned to join the building event in the morning only because I have to attend the World Conference of Christians (the EN07) in Araneta by 2:00 in the afternoon. But my friends requested me to stay a little bit longer for the building event will close by 3:00pm, and a program will follow. So I stayed, (because, anyway, the EN07 has two scheds 2-4, and 6-9, i decided to go for the 6-9 sched, but I can I attend both if I choose) and continued working with them. By 5pm I left the GK to go to Araneta (actually thinking about the freebie of the event, that is a pillow, they said that it's a gift for the Green Section, that was the group of people sitting in the uppermost bleachers of the coliseum, and I belong with them for I registered late, haha!!) a good thing that I still got a pillow! haha! I'm blessed, this is my remembrance! Woohoo!!

Anyway, inside the coliseum were the gathering of my brothers and sisters for Christ, from 44 countries, from different provinces in the Philippines. This was the 2nd day of the EN07 event, it's a 3 day event starting from 20 to 23 of July, and tomorrow will be the last day of the event. I have never saw that kind of crowd before, it's almost crazy, outrageous. The presentation were superb, the preachings were great! But what I love the most is the worship part, especially when all of us shouted for several minutes!! It supposed to be just 60 secs, but it happened to be several minutes long, it will not stop if the speaker did not spoke and started the worship songs. It was so wonderful!! I felt that I have endless source of energy in me (even though i came from a tiring work). Jodi and Karlo were in the Grey section, in the very bottom of the coliseum, too bad that we haven't met yet through the 2 days of the event, I'm looking forward to see them tomorrow! (But we are texting each other time to time) The good thing with that was I met new friends! and that was great!

I'm looking forward for tomorrow, can't wait! But I feel tired now. Haha, I want to sleep now.

grow

This is what I wrote, when one day I woke up, and it just came out of me. I planned to make it a children's book, but not worth it. I feel like lecturing. Haha, kids wont like that. But I'll post it anyway.

The eagle was once an egg,
then he hatched, fed and grew.
Taught to fly, maybe got some
broken wings along the way, but
still he flew.
No one can't stop him,
not even the wind or the deadly heights.
And because of that, wind became his best
companion and height
a close friend.
And he soar.

The mighty oak was once an acorn,
survived the many squirrels passed by.
Inside that little bud that only wanted
is to see the sun.
Then it peeked.
As a little sprout, he enjoyed the sun,
but the harsh wind and
the strong storms always coming by.
Some feet might have nearly trampled him.
But still it never stopped him reaching the sun,
then he grew. But as the still little, humble oak grew,
some animals had eaten its leaves, some little creatures
live within him, yet he is happy.
He stand still, stand firm.
Now he is the mighty old oak we know.

The apple was once a seed,
now she has lot of love to share to the
world with her red fruit.
The once cannot stand kid is now a horse,
one of the fastest creature in earth.
Before the Lion became the king,
he was once the little prince without
knowing what he would become.
Who would have thought ugly duckling
will grow as a creature of beauty and grace
-- the swan?
And a very long, long list goes.

And you and I as little children now,
will grow. You will grow as you,
and me as me.
Yet you are good and wonderful and beautiful
in your own way.
Like the eagle and the oak in their own ways.
And you and me will never stop to grow.

sand

This is supposed to be a song I wrote long time ago. But I forgot how it was sung. I hope I could remember.

The day is old and weary
And I am going home
The sun is red and bloody
Saying his last goodbye

On the endless fields of gold
Where the wind whispers to the wheat
And there, rush to shore
Put a smile on my face

Now I walk in the sands of white
Leaving my footsteps behind
To the waves of eternal sea
keeps erasing my memory

I'm but a sand
In time, will turn to sea

The road that I have made
Is now a forest
A long forgotten road
Hidden into the trees

And the stars of endless light
Kindly guides my way home
Though the way is dark
Looking up, I'm never lost

I'm but just a sand
In time, will turn to sea
Ebbing the life we know
To give us a new one forever

I'm but just a sand
In time, will turn to sea
my heart is drenched in wine
but you'll be on my mind
forever

a time for everything

Last day, I was asking God life's questions. I seem to be lost. Why does He leading me to the place I do not know. And God is good enough to comfort me with His wisdom. I stumbled to the pages of ecclesiastes, I think this is just the answer that I needed.

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
A time to be born,
And a time to die;
A time to plant,
And a time to pluck what is planted;
A time to kill,
And a time to heal;
A time to break down,
And a time to build up;
A time to weep,
And a time to laugh;
A time to mourn,
And a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones,
And a time to gather stones;
A time to embrace,
And a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to gain,
And a time to lose;
A time to keep,
And a time to throw away;
A time to tear,
And a time to sew;
A time to keep silence,
And a time to speak;
A time to love,
And a time to hate;
A time of war;
And a time of peace.
-ecc. 3:1-8

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

seven years

Outside, the rain is falling in the tin roof. Inside, i can feel the slowness of this season, that gives content to my heart. Now, I go back of those days that I used to go outside and play in the rain with my childhood friends, making dikes in the mud, or mud fighting as if it is snow; the stronger the rain the more we love it, we will never stop until it's really cold as ice, or mom is calling for hot porridge or when it's already "mask rider black" (of course we have to watch that, we never missed a single episode :D).

Until seven years ago I can do those things. I wonder why I cannot do it right now. And it gave me an odd feeling of nostalgia while listening to the music of Norah Jones.

Seven Years

Spinning, laughing, dancing to
her favorite song
A little girl with nothing wrong
Is all alone

Eyes wide open
Always hoping for the sun
And she'll sing her song to anyone
that comes along

Fragile as a leaf in autumn
Just fallin' to the ground
Without a sound

Crooked little smile on her face
Tells a tale of grace
That's all her own

Spinning, laughing, dancing to her favorite song
A little girl with nothing wrong
And she's all alone

do it poorly

I didn't know that this seemingly negative phrase is really helpful, especially if you really want something to get done. Quite a long time ago, someone asked me to do a blog, i said,"no, not until i made a good design for it"(because I love her blog). And so I did not made anything until now. (This is for her.)

I realized that what's taking the life out of me, (also in writing and illustrating) is this paralyzing thing called: perfectionism.

"Dare to be dreadful", i like that phrase because it is a good tool to fight that great enemy that always creeps on you when you are bound to do something -- the deadly perfectionism.

And here's what some clever people had to say about it:

"Get it down. Take chances. It may be bad, but it's the only way you can do anything really good."
-William Faulkner (1897-1962)

"Anything worth doing is worth doing badly."
- G.K. Chesterton(1874-1936)

"No one is perfect... that's why pencils have erasers." -Author Unknown

"Sometimes... when you hold out for everything, you walk away with nothing." -From the television show Ally McBeal

"You see, when weaving a blanket, an Indian woman leaves a flaw in the weaving of that blanket to let the soul out." -Martha Graham(1894 – 1991)

Congratulations! You're not perfect! It's ridiculous to want to be perfect anyway. But then, everybody's ridiculous sometimes, except perfect people. You know what perfect is? Perfect is not eating or drinking or talking or moving a muscle or making even the teensiest mistake. Perfect is never doing anything wrong - which means never doing anything at all. Perfect is boring! So you're not perfect! Wonderful! Have fun! Eat things that give you bad breath! Trip over your own shoelaces! Laugh! Let somebody else laugh at you! Perfect people never do any of those things. All they do is sit around and sip weak tea and think about how perfect they are. But they're really not one-hundred-percent perfect anyway. You should see them when they get the hiccups! Phooey! Who needs 'em? You can drink pickle juice and imitate gorillas and do silly dances and sing stupid songs and wear funny hats and be as imperfect as you please and still be a good person. Good people are hard to find nowadays. And they're a lot more fun than perfect people any day of the week. -Stephen Manes,(1949) Be a Perfect Person in Just Three Days!

Perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away. -Antoine de Saint-Exupéry(1900-1944)

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center. -Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Player Piano(1922-2007)

Does 'anal-retentive' have a hyphen? -Alison Bechdel, 1990 Dykes to Watch Out For calendar (Thank you, Chelsea.)

"The enemy of creation is perfectionism."-R.D.R. Cedro (1987-present)

"No work is perfect to a perfectionist."-
R.D.R. Cedro (1987-present)

Well, some words from the wise. (teehee) I think I have nothing to argue about that. Forget perfect let us just have fun!!
